For the past eleven years, it has been an extraordinary time as we have grown Rainbeau Ridge from a pair of goats to become a model of sustainable farming in the suburbs and a resource to our community.
Our livestock herd of alpine goats has given us the most spectacular milk and we have been fortunate to make farmstead goat cheeses that have been well received throughout the area, by cheese lovers and by restaurants and specialty retailers. Our cheeses have also been recognized and won national awards from the American Cheese Society and the Good Food Awards.
We have had the incredible pleasure of welcoming children from ages two through sixth grade to the farm on a weekly basis to interact directly with the farm's animals, dig in the dirt, plant their own garden and cook in the farm house kitchen with the farm's fresh ingredients.
We have hosted the community for our well-attended and family friendly events including Fall Fest, Sheep Shearing and Family Farm Overnights. Our hen races and goat races thrilled the crowds and our craft projects have always been great fun for all. Our partnerships in and around the community with like-minded environmental organizations, garden groups and not-for profits have been extraordinarily gratifying.
Capturing much of the decade’s story, the publication of Over The Rainbeau in 2009 was one of our highlights. We love having documented our journey, and having been able to share it with so many others.
Looking back after ten years, we certainly have grown—literally, personally and professionally.
For personal reasons, many of our activities will continue to be on sabbatical in 2014. Importantly, we plan to continue operating the farm as we have in 2013, but will scale back our operations and activities. For the 2014 season, kids’ programs, in lisa’s kitchen and Rainbeau Ridge goat cheese will continue to be on hiatus. We are exploring ways to re-engage some of the farms’ programs and we will keep you informed as plans unfold.
Thank you to our incredible staff and teaching team and everyone who has made our 11 years so meaningful and fulfilling!
